Successful EPTA World Pultrusion Conference on 8 to 9 April, 2010 in Barcelona

From 8 to 9 April, more than 80 participants from Europe and beyond attended the 10th World Pultrusion Conference in Barcelona with its interesting presentation programme. This conference, which takes place every two years, is organised by the European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA) founded in 1989; since July 2006 it has been under the umbrella of AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V., Frankfurt (Federation of Reinforced Plastics).

The conference was opened by the Chairman of the European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA), Dr. Luigi Giamundo, AT srl. in Italy. The guests, who came from 13 European countries as well as from the USA, China, and Russia, were given a concise overview of the worldwide market development in the area of composites (fibre reinforced polymers) and pultrusion*.

For a day and a half, 15 speakers presented information about innovative raw materials and technologies, new applications, and certification. Recycling and sustainability were major topics. With his presentation on the “recycling of fibre-reinforced plastics as illustrated by windmill rotor blades“, Dr. Schmidl of Holcim Deutschland AG described useful solutions for a number of currently relevant topics.

In the afternoon of the last day of the conference there was a visit to Owens Corning at the “Sant Vicenç“ plant.
