DESCRIPTION:In the production of biocomposites\, a matrix material (plastic) is processed with fibers as a reinforcing material\, whereby at least one component must be obtained from a renewable resource by definition. This results in new sustainable materials that have exceptional mechanical properties and can be used in lightweight construction. Fibers made from flax\, hemp or jute are often used as reinforcing fibers\, which are increasingly competing with the predominant synthetic fibers due to their high specific properties.   \nBasically\, bio-based fiber composites can be processed using conventional manufacturing processes. However\, there are still some challenges to fully exploiting the potential of this fiber composite. DESCRIPTION:Pultrusion – an automated manufacturing process for fibre-reinforced plastics – benefits particularly from digitalization. Digital technologies can be used to make all process steps more efficient\, from simulation and work preparation to system set-up and quality assurance.  \n\nIn work preparation\, digitalization enables more efficient production planning\, for example through digital tools for assembly planning\, material management and project coordination. This minimizes delays and optimizes the use of resources. \nSimulation and FEM (finite element method) are indispensable in pultrusion for the virtual design and testing of components and processes. This allows design decisions to be validated at an early stage\, material properties to be optimized and potential sources of error to be identified. \nWhen setting up the systems\, digital technology\, such as augmented reality or a digital twin of the pultrusion system\, helps to ensure the exact positioning of tools\, fibers and textile guides. DESCRIPTION:The JEC Forum DACH is organized by JEC in partnership with AVK and brings together the composites community from the DACH region (Germany\, Austria and Switzerland). The event takes place every year in different cities in the DACH region to promote the regional composites ecosystem and facilitate closer ties with local companies\, research and development centers and application industries.  \nAfter the first event in Frankfurt in 2021\, the Forum was held at Messe Augsburg in 2022 and in Salzburg in 2023\, while Stuttgart hosted the event in 2024. After the fifth edition in Dresden\, the event has now arrived in Cologne in 2026.

SUMMARY:6th Bremen Network Days
DESCRIPTION:The “Bremen Adhesives Days” have been a staple since 2003—not only for former participants in the Fraunhofer IFAM’s advanced training courses on adhesive technology. Since 2007\, continuing education courses in the field of fiber-reinforced composites have also been held here in Bremen—and since 2016\, Fraunhofer IFAM has also offered the “Bremen Fiber-Reinforced Composite Days\,” providing an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in fiber-reinforced composite technology\, maintain old contacts\, and forge new ones. The Bremen Fiber-Reinforced Composites Days are therefore an ideal complement to the courses offered by the Fiber-Reinforced Composites Continuing Education Center and\, at the same time\, provide conference participants who have not yet taken the courses with an interesting and up-to-date source of information. At the same time\, the aim is to create a platform for discussing challenges and solutions in working with fiber-reinforced composites—“from practice for practice.” \nThis event is recognized for the recertification of Fraunhofer IFAM’s FVK continuing education certificates. It also serves as continuing education for composite and adhesive supervision personnel and field personnel in accordance with DIN 2304\, DIN EN 17460\, and DIN 35255.  \nThe “5th Bremen Fiber Composites Conference” took place on November 8 and 9\, 2023\, at Fraunhofer IFAM. More than 60 participants attended exciting presentations covering a wide range of topics and engaged in in-depth discussions with the speakers.    \nThe “6th Bremen Fiber Composites Conference” will take place on November 11 and 12\, 2026!    \n🔗 FLYER

DESCRIPTION:In the manufacture of glass-fiber-reinforced plastics\, a matrix material (plastic) is processed with suitable glass fibers as a reinforcing material. This results in high-strength materials that are used in a wide variety of industrial sectors.\nThe winding and pultrusion processes allow glass fibers to be incorporated both in directions specifically specified by the designer and in higher concentrations. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the thickness of the laminate—and thus its weight—or to tailor the load-bearing behavior of the finished parts.\nOver the past few decades\, winding processes have evolved both technologically and in terms of raw materials to ensure that the finished parts meet modern application requirements.
