The
selected external experts bring fresh insights and perspectives from the pulp,
fiber and processing industries and enrich the discussions during the
event with their expertise. With their comprehensive expertise along the entire
fiber value chain, they contribute to a well-founded consideration of the topics discussed and
ensure a dynamic exchange of ideas. The expert presentations provide the perfect
platform to discuss the respective session. The Advisory Board members will stimulate a
lively debate to drive innovation across the industry.
Find out more about the Advisory Board here: cellulose-fibres.eu/advisoryboard

Biosynthetics on the rise

In addition to cellulose fibers, bio-based polymer fibers (biosynthetics) offer an excellent
opportunity to replace fossil fibers in textiles. Biosynthetics represent a convincing alternative
to conventional synthetic fibers, as they are considered a fully-fledged replacement in terms of both their performance and their
technical properties. These fibers are derived in whole or in part from
natural, renewable sources such as lactic acid, sugar beet, sugar cane or wood and
are therefore a bio-based alternative to fossil-based materials.
In a session entitled
“Biosynthetics – Replacing Traditional Synthetic Fibres”, experts will discuss the latest advances, challenges and
potential in this area. In order to drive sustainable change in the fashion and textile industry
, it is essential to shed light on innovative approaches such as biosynthetics.

Fiber-to-fiber recycling: the path to a sustainable textile industry

The textile industry is at a crucial turning point. The need for sustainable solutions
to achieve the EU’s ambitious climate targets is becoming increasingly urgent. One promising approach
is fiber-to-fiber recycling, in which used textiles are converted
into new, recyclable fibers. This process can reduce waste and resource consumption and close the textile
production loop. Although Europe has made progress in this area, there are still challenges – particularly in dealing with mixed fibers and developing
suitable recycling technologies. New approaches are needed to tackle climate change,
therefore a conference session will be dedicated to fiber-to-fiber recycling of textiles. This
will examine the latest innovations and technological advances as well as opportunities and hurdles
that need to be overcome to help the industry move towards a sustainable and
circular future.

Formation of microplastics from fibers versus biodegradability in the sea

The environmental impact of textiles goes far beyond the landfill, as microplastics from
synthetic fibers are becoming a growing problem in marine ecosystems. A session at
the conference will focus on the complex relationship between the formation of microplastics and
biodegradability in the ocean. While synthetic fibers release microplastics during washing
, these tiny particles, known as microfibers, accumulate in the
oceans and pose a serious threat to the marine ecosystem. This session
examines the factors that influence the degradation of fibers in the marine environment. This
is contrasted with the potential of biodegradable fibers to reduce long-term
pollution. This balancing act between the avoidance of microplastics and the development
of fibers that can be naturally degraded in marine ecosystems is a
key issue. The solutions that could help mitigate this pressing environmental problem
will be discussed at the conference.

Innovation Award “Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year 2025”

The nova-Institute and GIG Karasek are looking for the best fiber innovations of the year.
