SPEEDKongress 2025 – Future Day with a focus on recycling, AI and new technologies

Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute

On September 2, 2025, the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid (KIMW) invites you to the SPEEDKongress 2025 – the Future Day at the Technikum. The all-day congress combines live technologies, specialist knowledge and networking with a focus on the key challenges and opportunities facing the industry: recycling, artificial intelligence (AI), processes to increase efficiency and access to new markets.
Participants can expect an open technical center in which innovative processes and technologies are demonstrated in a practical way; a large number of exhibitors presenting the latest products, materials and solutions; short tours that provide exciting insights into the institute’s departments; and compact (SPEED) presentations that provide valuable impulses and directly applicable knowledge in a concise form.
The event is free of charge for members of the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid e. V. association. Non-members pay a small participation fee.

The SPEED Congress on September 2, 2025 offers its participants practical insights into current research results and ZIM innovation networks, industrial applications and innovative plastics processing methods as well as dialogues with institute employees on the central future topics of plastics processing. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with an open technical center, flying buffet and SPEED matching, which is intended to promote exchange and new impulses between the participants.

Live technologies: The future in the technical center

Most of the topics will be presented live in the open technical center so that participants can get a concrete overview using samples and demonstrators. For example, CO₂ detection will be shown directly on the injection molding machine at the touch of a button. In addition, many companies are concerned about the quality and price of PCR materials, and employees from Lüdenscheid will be on hand to answer questions. Another very successful business area is electromagnetic shielding by plastics. A large number of tests have been carried out here in order to scrutinize the performance of the various fillers and filler components and the connection to the shielding braid of the round conductor. What is new is that the focus is now also on the combination of plastic and metal, on the one hand through separately injected metal components and on the other hand through the direct compounding of both materials into a processable granulate. Another highlight is the presentation of a newly developed, self-cleaning venting module. This is ideal for use when processing materials that are highly susceptible to deposits. The topic of small series will not be neglected either: there will be an impressive demonstration of how injection molding materials can be processed efficiently using the latest 3D printing technology.

Knowledge meets network & new markets

The current ZIM innovation networks of the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid, which form strong industry platforms in future-oriented markets, will be presented within the exhibitions. These include the areas of hydrogen via H2-Konkret, bioplastics of the next generation but one (Poly4Nature), lighting and sensor technology (Eco4Light) and the medical sector with HealthGoGreen. A network on the topic of Second Life is also being planned (planned start 01.26). The networks are generally 20-35 partners strong and cover a variety of business areas. This ensures that the partners in the network benefit optimally from each other and can make targeted use of synergies.

Supporting program

The program is supplemented by accompanying tours, which offer exciting insights into the laboratory, tool coating and compounding areas in compact units of around 15 minutes each. The tours are led by the respective area managers, who not only provide participants with in-depth specialist knowledge, but are also directly available to answer individual questions.

At the accompanying exhibition, companies from the plastics processing sector – from innovative start-ups and providers of peripheral technologies to renowned raw material suppliers – will be represented and provide a comprehensive insight into current developments and practical solutions in the industry.

Starting at 2 p.m., participants can look forward to a series of entertaining specialist presentations in the form of concise pitches. The focus will be on current and future-oriented topics: artificial intelligence in plastics processing, technology scouting, the NIS 2 directive, sustainability and new materials as well as mold venting and the overmolding of electronics.

Afterwards, from 3:30 pm, an open networking session will offer the opportunity for professional exchange and in-depth discussions in a relaxed atmosphere.

The event is free of charge for members of the sponsoring organization Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid e. V.. Non-members pay a small participation fee.
