Basic seminar “Thermoset and thermoplastic pultrusion and aspects of winding” – with practical part on pultrusion
In the manufacture of glass-fiber-reinforced plastics, a matrix material (plastic) is processed with suitable glass fibers as a reinforcing material. This results in high-strength materials that are used in a wide variety of industrial sectors.
The winding and pultrusion processes allow glass fibers to be incorporated both in directions specifically specified by the designer and in higher concentrations. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the thickness of the laminate—and thus its weight—or to tailor the load-bearing behavior of the finished parts.
Over the past few decades, winding processes have evolved both technologically and in terms of raw materials to ensure that the finished parts meet modern application requirements. The many technological developments in the pultrusion process have made it possible to further develop the initially thin round profiles into large-dimensioned profiles with complex geometries.
