Thermoplastic composites are becoming increasingly important in numerous industrial sectors. From the automotive and aerospace industries to construction and sports and leisure products, they are convincing thanks to their combination of high strength, low weight and good recycling prospects. This makes them a key material for sustainable and efficient lightweight construction solutions.
The aim of the study is to provide a systematic overview of the status quo, development and future opportunities in this dynamic materials segment.
The study analyzes the basic material properties of thermoplastic composites and highlights the advantages of their use compared to alternative materials. In addition, differences between various material classes are identified and the historical development of their industrial use is presented.
A particular focus is on examining the current European market volume and the fields of application that dominate today. The study also identifies future market potential on the basis of relevant macroeconomic factors.
In particular, the following are considered: LFT (Long Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics), GMT (Glass Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics), CFRTP (Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics). These material groups play a central role in modern structural components with high mechanical requirements. They combine the advantages of thermoplastic matrices – such as short cycle times, efficient processing and new production possibilities – with the performance of reinforcing fibers.
