Market study on thermoplastic composites

European Alliance for Thermoplastic Composites (EATC) publishes comprehensive study on the market, applications and prospects of thermoplastic composites

Thermoplastic fiber-reinforced plastics – also known as thermoplastic composites – are becoming increasingly important in numerous industrial sectors. From the automotive and aerospace industries to construction and sports and leisure products, they are convincing thanks to their combination of high strength, low weight and good recycling prospects. This makes them a key material for sustainable and efficient lightweight construction solutions.

Against this backdrop, the European Alliance for Thermoplastic Composites (EATC) has commissioned a new market study on the European market for thermoplastic fiber composites and provided technical support. The aim of the study is to provide a systematic overview of the status quo, development and future opportunities in this dynamic materials segment.

Focus on market structure, applications and growth drivers
The study analyzes the basic material properties of thermoplastic composites and highlights the advantages of their use compared to alternative materials. In addition, differences between various material classes are identified and the historical development of their industrial use is presented.

A particular focus is on examining the current European market volume and the fields of application that dominate today. The study also identifies future market potential on the basis of relevant macroeconomic factors.

In focus: LFT, GMT and CFRTP
The focus is on LFT (long fiber-reinforced thermoplastics), GMT (glass mat-reinforced thermoplastics) and CFRTP (continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastics).

These material groups play a central role in modern structural components with high mechanical requirements. They combine the advantages of thermoplastic matrices – such as short cycle times, efficient processing and new production possibilities – with the performance of reinforcing fibers.

Strategic material for Europe’s industry
The results of the study underline the growing strategic importance of thermoplastic composites for Europe as an industrial location. Particularly in times of increasing demands for resource efficiency, CO₂ reduction and the circular economy, thermoplastic composites offer great potential for innovative product solutions.

Available now
The study is now available in PDF format via the AVK.
EATC and AVK members can obtain the study for EUR 149 (plus VAT), for non-members the study is available for sale at a price of EUR 349 (plus VAT).

All players in the field of long-fiber or continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites have decided to work closely together to increase the variety of applications and accelerate new developments.

The members of the European Alliance for Thermoplastic Composites (EATC) provide the industry with innovative and economical components and systems made from long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics. The EATC is an expert group of the AVK – Industrievereinigung verstärkte Kunststoffe.
