The composites industry in Europe is facing major challenges. In addition to politicians, companies along the entire value chain are also called upon to find solutions to ensure that Europe remains competitive on the international stage.

The composites industry in Europe is not doing well at the moment. Its high dependence on overall economic development has led to a significant decline in production volumes in recent years. The two core application areas for composites in Europe are the transportation sector, primarily automotive, and the construction sector.
The automotive industry in particular is currently facing profound structural changes. The medium-term trend in registration figures is clearly pointing downwards. German/European OEMs are currently barely managing to respond to the challenges posed by a lack of demand and strong non-European competition.
The construction sector, which has long been extremely stable and has reacted much less drastically than the consumer-driven automotive market, is also currently in recession.
