The share of thermoplastic systems in the overall composites market has increased significantly in recent years. This is due to many material-specific advantages. The possibility of rapid processing, even in large-scale automotive production, storage stability, recyclability and the possibility of functional integration are just some of the positive aspects.
Our working group EATC – European Alliance for Thermoplastic Composites – brings together an enormous amount of expertise on current applications, possibilities and future opportunities for thermoplastic materials in various application areas via members along the entire value chain.
The focus of the work is on long and continuous fiber-reinforced composites. The most important area of application today is the automotive sector, where composites have been firmly established for decades. However, there is also great potential in the aviation, infrastructure and public transport sectors.
A comprehensive study on the European composites market was recently prepared jointly by the working group. This analyzes the current situation, but also focuses on potential growth areas.
Composites, and especially thermoplastic composites with their unique property portfolio, are still too little known to many decision-makers. In the working group, we are working together to build up a broad knowledge base and communicate the advantages and opportunities comprehensively in order to contribute to the establishment and further growth of the market.
