General Association of the Plastics Processing Industry (GKV)
In 2018, the European Commission adopted a European strategy for the first time
for plastics in the circular economy. In the run-up to the elections to the European
Parliament, the GKV drew up a report on the

in Berlin, the results were mixed. After her welcoming remarks, Dr.
Helen Fürst, President of the GKV, with Jürgen Kretz, Member of the Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen),
Judith Skudelny, Member of Parliament (FDP), Dr. Anja Weisgerber, Member of Parliament (CDU/CSU) and Tom Ohlendorf,
WWF Germany. The panel discussion was moderated by the journalist
Anke Plättner.
The plastics strategy was also accompanied by hopes on the part of industry for additional
value creation. These hopes have hardly been fulfilled so far.
Instead, it is the enormous increase in bureaucracy and new, in some cases
inadequately thought-out legislation. “In many cases, plastic is
the greener solution. The transformation of the plastics industry to a circular economy
is very complex. It makes sense to take one step at a time”,
said Dr. Helen Fürst.
On the afternoon of June 4, 2024, the delegates at the SHI Delegates’ Assembly
Dr. Helen Fürst was unanimously re-elected to the Supervisory Board for a further two years.
