Johns Manville (JM), a leading manufacturer of high-quality building and specialty products and a Berkshire Hathaway company, is pleased to introduce MultiStar® 272 Multi-End (assembled) Roving to the North American market. Multi-End roving is a fiberglass material in which multiple strands of fiber are bundled together to create a stronger, more versatile product for composite manufacturing.

MultiStar® 272 was developed to meet the automotive industry’s increasing demands for high-performance, lightweight materials with flawless surfaces. It is specifically designed to enhance the capabilities of the downstream sheet molding compound (SMC) value chain and enables the achievement of stringent Class A surface quality standards required by automotive manufacturers for their end products.

Achieving class A surfaces is associated with considerable challenges. These include an optimal raw material balance, efficient processing and the minimization of surface defects. MultiStar® 272 overcomes these challenges with exceptional wetting properties, optimized shredding performance and low linting, ensuring a smooth and defect-free surface.

“MultiStar® 272 is a reliable product for SMC compounders who want to achieve outstanding results in the automotive sector,” said Pat Reinagel, Global Portfolio Manager Fiberglass at Johns Manville. “Our extensive experience in Europe has shown that MultiStar® 272 provides the consistency and quality needed to achieve Class A surfaces. We are very excited to bring this expertise to the North American market.”

Johns Manville will showcase MultiStar® 272 at CAMX 2024 at booth N23, where visitors will be able to experience the product’s capabilities first-hand. In addition, the company will also showcase its portfolio of fiber optic direct rovings and chopped strands.
