New seminar on LCA and ecological production design

Sustainable production – use of life cycle assessment and ecological production design

Economical, sustainable and flexible – this is how the production of fiber composite components should be in the future. But which technologies are best suited in each case and how can production be ideally designed? And how can the ecological sustainability of production and products be determined and increased?
The seminar provides a basic understanding of selected methods of factory planning and life cycle assessment and presents suitable key figures for evaluation. The skills taught
will be consolidated in exercises using practical examples and planning software tools will be tested.

The production of fiber composite components should be robust, economical, sustainable and flexible, but which technologies are best suited to the given production conditions and target values? How can the processes be optimally interlinked and how can a new technology be optimally integrated into an existing production system? And how can the ecological sustainability of production and products be determined and increased?

The seminar “Sustainable production – use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and ecological production design” deals with precisely these issues. The necessary simulation tools and assessment methods are presented, with a particular focus on life cycle assessment. Participants thus learn about the entire planning process, from the generation of data to the virtual integration of new process chains into existing production systems. Another central component is the validation and evaluation with regard to individual target values. The focus of the seminar is on the calculation of logistical (time, costs, inventory in circulation) and ecological target values.

Participants will gain a basic understanding of the planning process for the production and production structure of fiber composite components. They will be able to use planning software tools such as Plant Simulation and learn about life cycle assessment approaches and how to apply the basic principles and evaluate the developed concepts and planning alternatives according to the target values. The entire module is illustrated using examples of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) components, including fiber placement technologies for data generation, FRP process modules for process chain design and FRP life cycle assessment databases for evaluation.

✅ You will acquire basic knowledge of the ecological evaluation of composite production using life cycle assessment (LCA) and gain an overview of the environmental impact of materials and processes

✅ You will acquire a basic understanding of how the suitability of new technologies in production can be evaluated and how economic, ecological and flexible production can be planned

✅ You will receive an overview and an introduction to suitable methods.
The methods are applied using practical application examples and an insight into common software is provided
