The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research (IAP) develops materials and processes based on native and synthetic polymers on a laboratory and pilot plant scale. The focus is on new materials, functional materials and processing aids. The focus is on the development of fibers and spinning processes as well as thermoplastic composite materials for injection molding that are reinforced with organic fibers, nanoparticles or nanofibers. Particular attention is paid to bio-based fibers (including technical cellulose fibers) and matrix materials (PLA, PHA, cellulose and starch derivatives). Interested industrial partners are offered material development as well as material and structure characterization services.
