Reliable detection of foreign substances in plastic melts. SKZ sets standards in inline testing technology

SKZ – the plastics center

The SKZ Plastics Center offers advanced inline inspection systems that enable the detection of both non-metallic and metallic contaminants in plastic melts. The technologies based on ultrasound and microwaves are used commercially to ensure the highest quality in plastics processing.

Whether glass particles, wood residue or metal abrasion – foreign materials in plastic melts can have a serious impact on product quality. They pose a particular challenge during extrusion and injection molding. The SKZ (Plastics Center) offers a practical solution for this: advanced inline inspection systems that detect even the smallest impurities at an early stage – and thus significantly improve quality and process reliability in plastics processing.

Technology that sees further – ultrasound and microwaves instead of just metal detection
In contrast to conventional metal detectors, the systems developed at the SKZ detect not only metallic but also non-metallic foreign materials such as glass, cardboard, wood or stone. This is made possible by the use of ultrasonic and microwave methods, which continuously measure during the ongoing process – without interrupting or impairing it.
In addition, the systems are also able to identify plastics or degraded materials that are not sorted by type. This sets them apart from conventional screening inserts and opens up new possibilities for quality assurance in sensitive or highly specialized production processes.

Many years of development – industry-oriented solutions
For more than ten years, the SKZ has been working on the development of industry-compatible measuring and testing systems for plastic melts. The solutions are developed in close cooperation with industry – from the initial feasibility test to complete integration into existing production lines.
As a member of the Zuse community, the SKZ not only offers technological expertise, but also the entire process chain from a single source: from conception and validation to integration into the manufacturing process, the SKZ ensures that the customized solutions are always available to the customer.

More quality, fewer rejects
The SKZ’s inline testing technology makes quality control possible where it has the greatest impact – directly in the melt. In this way, foreign materials are precisely detected even before the final component is manufactured. Manufacturing companies benefit from higher product quality, fewer rejects and more efficient production.
