Since its foundation 30 years ago, the Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) has been a strong innovation partner and reliable service provider on behalf of its customers. The non-profit institute addresses technical and social issues with an open, interdisciplinary and reliable approach. Textile materials have always characterized the work. The work at STFI focuses on the areas of technical textiles, nonwovens, lightweight textile construction, functionalization, recycling, digitalization and Industry 4.0. The STFI also has many years of experience and expertise in the testing and certification of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the certification of geosynthetics. In the future, the STFI will continue along the path of contemporary and application-oriented research and establish the Center for Textile Sustainability in the near future. The STFI has been an affiliated institute of Chemnitz University of Technology since 2006. The STFI is also actively involved as a member of the Zuse Association and the Saxon Industrial Research Association (SIG).
