STFI theme day: Technologies for the textile circular economy

Saxon Textile Research Institute e. V. (STFI)

Everyone is talking about the circular textile economy. However, we will only make decisive progress towards this goal through cooperation and networks, which is why the Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) is inviting partners from industry, universities and research institutions to a professional exchange.
The challenges on the way to a circular textile economy are manifold. This concerns, for example, research into materials and recycling and processing technologies, product design, product use and care, business models and also policy, which should create incentives and establish effective transformation aids. In view of single-digit recycling rates, there is still a long way to go. At the same time, a variety of developments in the areas of collecting, sorting and processing textile waste show that momentum can be created. As multifaceted as textile products are, the solutions must be just as varied. The circular economy must be a culture – it affects us all!
For over 30 years, STFI has been dedicated to a wide range of applications in the textile industry as an innovation partner and service provider. With the construction of a Center for Textile Sustainability and the installation of a wet laid nonwoven line, STFI has expanded its expertise in the areas of nonwoven development, textile recycling and testing.
