Since 1992, the Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Nord, SLV Nord for short, has been a competent partner in all areas of welding technology. As a cooperating member of the non-profit Gesellschaft für Schweißtechnik International mbH (GSI), which is present in over 50 countries, we work for individuals, craft businesses, industrial companies, authorities and research bodies.

We offer a wide range of services for the northern German region in the following areas:

• Training and further education
• Quality assurance
• Materials testing
• Plastics technology

Since 2008, SLV Nord has been based in the ELBCAMPUS, the competence center of the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts. Many years of experience in welder training meet technical conditions that are unique in northern Germany in the ultra-modern, award-winning building complex: Over 100 arc, gas and plastic welding stations combined with state-of-the-art welding and testing technology on 3,200 m² enable training at the highest level. In addition to practical courses on all common welding processes in metal and plastic, SLV Nord offers theoretical training courses, such as International Welding Engineer. The Plastics Center offers theoretical and practical training courses and seminars in welding, bonding and laminating. All training courses and seminars are developed in accordance with the guidelines of the German Welding Society (DVS®) or other associations/institutions and are carried out to the highest quality standards.

Welding technology in all its forms has a long tradition in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, dating back to shipbuilding in the 1920s. Even then, the aim was to achieve optimum efficiency and quality in the connections to be produced by using advanced techniques, application-specific processes and specially trained personnel.
