IVW GmbH is an internationally active, non-profit research institution of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It develops composites with thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics as well as with functionally optimized fibre and particle reinforcements. Composite components provide advantages for applications in automotive engineering, aerospace, mechanical engineering, energy technology, construction, sports and leisure equipment, medical technology and many other industries.
The institute was founded in 1990 on the campus of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Today, around 100 employees shape the activities of the institute. The IVW professors represent the teaching of plastics and composites at the TU Kaiserslautern. The research activities cover the entire development value chain from the scientific foundations to the production of prototypes in an industry-oriented environment.
