The overall economic situation is currently weighing on the composites market in Europe. The overall market in Europe is declining for the third time in a row. Nevertheless, this market segment has shown continuous growth in the medium and long term. Key applications can be found in the transportation sector, particularly the automotive industry, in the construction and infrastructure sector and in electrical/electronics.
Although composites are often regarded as a material of the future with high innovation potential, they are already firmly established in numerous applications. The development of the composites market is therefore closely linked to the overall development of the core industries. This development has not been uniform in recent years – the automotive sector, for example, is subject to much greater fluctuations than the construction sector. The electrical/electronics industry is closely linked to the development of the end customer business. Accordingly, individual market segments within the composites industry have also developed differently.
However, there is a general trend that can be seen across all application segments. The share of thermoset composites is growing less dynamically than the market for thermoplastic composites.
